Coronavirus: Attention, The Second Wave Appears in Europe
The European epidemic has rebounded sharply and the situation is critical. The Spanish capital, Madrid, has announced the lockdown of the city, and it is expected that the United Kingdom will announce the closure measures in the next few weeks.
Spain, Madrid Lockdown
In Madrid, the Spanish capital, where the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic is severe, some areas will implement lockdown measures again, affecting more than 850,000 people. Among them, there are poor people who worry that another closure of the city will affect their livelihoods, and worry that the government will let their poor lives fend for themselves.
Spain has so far accumulated more than 620,000 confirmed cases, of which 37 districts of Madrid have been closed since the week. People can only leave the area where they live when they go to work, school or seek medical treatment. Social gatherings are limited to six people, parks are closed, and shops must be closed before 10pm.
In these affected areas, more than 1,000 people have been infected for every 100,000 people in the past 14 days. These include slums such as the city of Vallecas, where per capita income is low, there are more immigrants, densely populated, and the health system is poor. Almost paralyzed, the residents are worried about being abandoned and labelled. They generally need to work as babysitters, porters, restaurant waiters and other jobs that require direct contact with people. If the city is closed, there may be no income soon.

At the same time, medical resources in the Madrid area have become tighter, and some medical centers have been forced to close due to staff shortages. A nurse at the medical center looked at the queue of patients and said: “The working class is a group of suffering…They are the group that suffers the consequences of mishandling by the local government, and they are at a huge risk of COVID-19.”
French is Severe, the Minister of Finance Confirmed
France continues to rebound, with 13,215 newly confirmed cases in a single day on Friday. Even politicians with good conditions have suffered. French Finance Minister Le Maire has also been confirmed. The French National Assembly revealed that a total of 8 confirmed cases including members of the National Assembly and staff have been detected recently.
The French health agency warned that the number of new deaths is increasing, and the spread of coronary disease among the elderly is increasing. It is worrying that hospitalizations and deaths will continue to increase in the coming weeks. In response to the current pressure of virus testing, the French health department approved the use of saliva to detect viral infections. The Paris municipality urged the public to avoid private gatherings of more than 10 people.
The southern city of Nice announced new control measures to deal with COVID-19, including banning gatherings of more than 10 people in parks, gardens, beaches and other places.
London cancels New Year’s fireworks show, the city may be closed in the future
The UK’s illness continues to rebound. There were 4,322 new confirmed cases in a single day on Friday. More and more people estimate that the UK will close the city in the next few weeks. British Prime Minister Johnson said that a second wave of new coronavirus pneumonia infections will inevitably occur in the UK, and the government may need to introduce new restrictions and implement a second round of national lockdown.
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said on Friday that due to the impact of the Coronavirus, the New Year’s Eve fireworks show originally scheduled for the end of December will be suspended. This is another major annual event cancelled in London following the cancellation of the Hyde Park Christmas Market.
Italy Looks Good
However, Italy, which was the worst-hit area earlier, has a relatively stable epidemic; compared with the number of new cases per 100,000 people in the past 14 days, Italy has only 33 confirmed cases, which is far better than Spain’s 292.2 cases or France’s 172.1 cases.
Experts believe that in addition to combining good detection, tracking and security measures, the main reason is that Italy blocked the block earlier and unblocked it later than neighboring countries.
Impact to Travel Business
With the second wave of the epidemic, all European countries are trying to adjust their epidemic policies to strike a balance between economic recovery and epidemic control. Especially for the tourism industry most affected by the epidemic, some EU member states have once again tightened prevention and control measures to restrict the entry of tourists from areas with high epidemics, which has hit this vision.
Many EU public experts believe that the recent second rebound of the epidemic in Europe is closely related to the relaxation of restrictions and the large population flow during the summer vacation. Relevant countries adjusted social restriction measures according to the epidemic prevention and control situation, and introduced more targeted measures to respond.
At the EU level, the European Commission has proposed a general “traffic light” policy for this purpose, aiming to coordinate the travel restriction policies adopted by various member states, and each member state adopts corresponding epidemic prevention and control measures according to different colors.
Countries have adopted a certain degree of restrictive policies on high-risk areas, that is, people returning from the “red zone”. Taking Germany as an example, the German government issued a new policy at the end of August, stipulating that travelers returning from areas at high risk of the epidemic must be quarantined at home for 14 days if they do not undergo nucleic acid testing upon entry.
